Green Home Program

Welcome to our Green Home program! This program encourages property owners to provide a more energy efficient and eco-friendly home, which is not only good for our global eco-system but also provides a healthier environment within the vacation home. In order to participate in this program, the property owner must comply with the Requirements listed below and their home may also be equipped with additional 'green home' elements as listed in the Optional Features.

Requirements:

Cleaning products: Must use and provide only environmentally friendly cleaning products, dish soap, and laundry detergent, and absolutely no aerosols or chlorine bleach. This can include ready made products, vinegar, baking soda, & borax
Cleaning equipment: In addition to the standard cleaning equipment, the owner must provide a re-useable mop, cloth rags, and non-toxic sponges
Use and provide only unscented or naturally scented products i.e. fabric softeners, liquid soaps, candles
Use energy efficient light bulbs (non-incandescent) wherever possible
Provide an outdoor compost bin + indoor compost bucket with lid
Provide recycling bins & recycling guidelines
Provide a clothesline or umbrella dryer
Encourage renters to recycle, to conserve water, and to reduce power consumption. Provide information about time-of-use price periods for hydro consumption

Optional Features:

Outdoor sensor lights so that lighting is only provided when it's needed
Shower aerators and low flush toilets to reduce water consumption
Rain barrels to collect water for the gardens and outdoor use
Re-usable coffee filter for the coffee maker
Paper products made from recycled & unbleached paper
Bagless vacuum cleaner
Furnishings made from renewable materials such as bamboo and rattan
Blankets and linens made with natural fibres and plant dyes i.e. cotton, silk, wool, hemp
Energy efficient appliances
Programmable thermostat(s)
Hot-water-on-demand system
